The Ngamba Island is part of the Koome group of islands located in Lake Victoria, 23km south-west of Entebbe Uganda. It consists of Approximately 100 acres, 95 of which are forests and for use by the Chimpanzees. Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is established in October 1998 to re-home orphaned chimpanzees rescued from poachers and traders; the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary has grown to include a rich diversity of animal species; including birds, hippos and crocodiles apart from the chimpanzees; birders can also have their take in the woodland and the forested areas at the Island. The shoreline, obviously, provides an excellent opportunity for watching shorebirds and is currently home to 49 Orphaned rescued chimpanzees.

This Ngamba Island has no age limit; it’s accountable for every person. And mainly the children only experience the feeding so they don’t allow them to be caregivers.
Day trips to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Feeding times from the visitors viewing platform are at 11:00 am and 2:30 pm. You can view either of them. You have to arrive at the Island at least 1hour before the Feeding; so that you listen to an informative talk by the sanctuary staff; enjoy the Island’s beautiful views, natural wildlife, bird life and activities like; Volleyball, Swimming in the Lake, Kayaking and Island Shopping.
Overnight trips on Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
An excursion over two or more days while staying in the exclusive permanent tent camp on the island; is worth your time. Each of the four tents overlooks the lake from its raised, private wooden deck; and accommodates two persons in comfort with full sized twin beds, en-suite bathroom and solar lighting. Freshly prepared sumptuous meals are provided in either our covered or open dining areas beside the lake. Meals vary but we try to cater for all tastes. Drinks are available on a cash sale basis including water, sodas, beers wines and a selection of Spirits.
As well as viewing the chimpanzees from the viewing platform. Visitors have a lot of time to enjoy the island’s other facilities. The early mornings are particularly memorable as the chimpanzees noisily wake up at sunrise. Calling loudly to anyone who is listening. At sunset, you can see huge numbers of Bats often as they fly out of the forests into the sunset.
Care Giving Experience at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
The unique experience still offers you an amazing opportunity to spend time with the Chimpanzee. The caregiver experience is 24-hour opportunity Moreover behind the senses of the sanctuary. That is to say participate in the daily routine of preparing food, cleaning facilities, health checks. And generally learning more about the efforts needed to take care of the chimpanzees.
As a matter of fact, the caregiver and Ngamba trail activities are inclusive if you have the overnight excursion; to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary as they require advance booking. Caregiving also requires specific vaccinations and health requirements. (more than the ones required for travel to Africa) that are fulfilling well in advance.
